This homemade taco seasoning is easy to make, in fact you probably already have all the ingredients!
I made this recipe with my on camera pal, Rachael Ray… you can watch us use the Taco Seasoning homemade to make my famous Taco Mac and Cheese in the video below. You can add it to ground meat, shredded chicken, or crumbled tofu to make your favorite homemade tacos tonight.

  • ¼ cup chili powder
  • ¼ cup garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper


Basic How to Make Taco Seasoning Instructions:

  • Mix all ingredients together, store in a jar in the pantry for up to 6 months.
  • For each pound of meat, 1 cup of shredded chicken, or 1 cup of crumbled tofu, add 2 tablesooons of Homemade Taco Seasoning.

Shredded Chicken Tacos:

  • To a pan, add 1 cup of shredded cooked chicken, 2 tablespoons of Homemade Taco Seasoning, and 1/4 cup water or chicken broth.
  • Cook on medium-low heat, uncovered until the water has evaporated. Stir often to avoid burning.

Ground Meat Taco Seasoning:

  • Add 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, chicken) to a pan, brown over medium heat.
  • Drain out any fat and discard, then add in 2 tablespoons Homemade Taco Seasoning and 1/4 cup water or beer.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low and cook until the liquid is absorbed. Stir often to avoid burning.

Tofu Vegan Tacos:

  • Crumble 1 cup of firm or extra firm tofu, add it to pan with 2 tablespoons Homemade Taco Seasoning, and 1/4 cup water.
  • Cook on medium-low heat until the liquid is absorbed. Stir often to avoid burning.
