- 2 teaspoons olive oil – Any oil works here, olive oil is the most nutritious.
- 1 onion – Yellow onions are the best in this recipe, but white will also work
- 1 red bell – I use red to hide the veggie better but any color will work.
- 3 garlic cloves – You can cut down to one clove if garlic is a problem for you.
- 1 lb. ground turkey – Any ground meat will work here.
- 2 large eggs – You can also use 1/3 cup egg whites from the carton.
- ½ cup grated parmesan – I recommend fresh, but any parm or salty cheese will work.
- ¾ cup bread crumbs – Swap for gluten-free or keto breadcrumbs if you like.
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce – Adds a ton of flavor and complexity, soy sauce also works.
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar – Adds lots of flavor, you can swap for more Worcestershire.
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning – I supplied a recipe below if you don’t have the spice blend.
- 1 teaspoon salt – Or skip for low sodium.
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper – Any pepper will work here, can also be skipped.
- ½ cup Low Calorie Barbecue Sauce – I supplied you with a recipe in the card below, but store-bought also works.

Low Carb Turkey Meatloaf
To make this healthy turkey meatloaf low carb, make your own breadcrumbs with Low Calorie High Protein Bread. Simply toast a slice and cool it completely. Then grind it in your food processor.
Low Fat Turkey Meat Loaf
This turkey meatloaf is already low in fat. You can ensure to keep the fat low with 99% fat free ground turkey. Also, skip the olive oil and use olive oil spray instead. It gives off a light mist and will save you lots of fat.
Gluten-Free Turkey Meat Loaf
You can easily make this healthy turkey meatloaf gluten-free, juts use gluten free bread crumbs. You can also use your favorite gluten-free bread. Simply toast a slice and cool it completely. Then grind it in your food processor.
Low Sodium Turkey Meatloaf
To make a low sodium meatloaf skip the salt in the recipe (the BBQ sauce has enough flavor) and either get low sodium BBQ sauce, or make your one and skip the salt in that recipe.
Low Sugar Turkey Meat Loaf
To make a low sugar meatloaf make your own BBQ sauce and swap out the honey for keto syrup.
Healthy Meatloaf Meal Prep and Storage
Meal Prep
- Prep – Mix the meatloaf and add to a loaf pan or baking dish.
- Cover – Cover with plastic wrap, or a casserole lid.
- Refrigerate or Freeze – Will hold for 4 days in the fridge. And in the freezer for 1 month.
- Cook – Defrost overnight in the fridge if frozen. Uncover and cook as directed below (you can print out the recipe card and tape it to the top).
Leftover Storage
- Cook – Cook as directed below, rest and slice.
- Individual or Family Servings – Add one slice to a container for single serve. Or as many servings as you need for the full family for family servings. Cover and store for later.
- Refrigerate or Freeze – Will hold for 4 days in the fridge. And in the freezer for 1 month.
- Reheat – Defrost in the fridge if frozen. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes, or the microwave for 3 minutes.

Low Calorie Turkey Meatloaf
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 whole onion finely chopped
- 1 whole red bell pepper finely chopped
- 3 garlic clove minced
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 2 large eggs

- ¾ cup bread crumbs (or regular or gluten-free breadcrumbs)
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning

- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ½ cup Low Calorie Barbecue Sauce or store-bought

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Oil a loaf pan with 1 teaspoon of olive oil, or olive oil baking spray. If you don't have a loaf pan oil, use a rimmed baking sheet.
- In a large skillet, heat a teaspoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and sauté for 5 to 10 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and continue to sauté, for 1 to 2 minutes, or until soft. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, add the cooled onion mixture and the remaining ingredients except for 1/4 cup of the BBQ sauce. Mix with your hands until just combined (over mixing will make a tough meat loaf).
- Transfer the meat mixture to the loaf pan and shape it into a loaf. (If you’re using a baking sheet just mold the meat loaf into a log shape.) Top with the remaining BBQ sauce.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees F. Let the meat loaf rest for 10 minutes, then cut it into eight slices and serve.
Mini Meatloafs
- Oil 8 muffin cups, instead of a loaf pan.
- Add the prepared turkey meatloaf mixture to the cups, and bake for 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees F. Let the mini turkey meatloaves rest for 10 minutes, then remove from muffin tins and serve.
