Admittedly, I am a snob when it comes to marinara sauce! I never buy the jarred stuff, it’s just so easy to make marinara sauce homemade… Plus the store-bought stuff has loads of sugar, and often is packed with preservatives.

  • Onion

  • 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Sugar

I like to stock up on canned tomatoes for sauce when they are on sale… They hold in the pantry, and this way I’m always ready to make this homemade marinara sauce recipe.

Don’t let the sugar throw you off… You only add a pinch (1/8 teaspoon) for 10 servings!

How to Make Marinara Sauce:

MARINARA STOVETOP INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium-low heat. Add the onion and sauté 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, 1 cup water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and salt. Cook over low heat for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes to avoid burning.

MARINARA INSTANT POT INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine the oil and onion in an Instant Pot. Set the pot to sauté on medium heat and cook for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, then hit cancel.
  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and salt to the pot, cover, and cook on high pressure for 30 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally.

MARINARA SLOW COOKER INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-low heat. Add the onion and sauté for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Transfer the onion and garlic to a slow cooker and add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and the salt. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 to 12 hours.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 onion minced
  • 8 garlic cloves minced
  • 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 6-ounce can tomato paste

Instructions
