This healthy pound cake is perfect for a low calorie dessert. I like to add almond milk whipped cream and berries for dessert. But it’s also a great light breakfast with a cup of coffee.

Ingredients in Healthy Pound Cake

To make the recipe low sugar and extra low in calories, I use an all-natural zero calorie sugar (made from real sugar cane!) But you can use regular sugar, monk fruit, or coconut sugar.

And I still used my low calorie tricks in this recipe, so even if you use real sugar, the recipe will still be low calorie!

  • All-purpose flour (or gluten free)
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • Unsalted butter
  • All-Natural Zero Calorie Sugar (see recipe card below!) or regular sugar
  • Egg
  • Unsweetened almond milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Unsweetened apple sauce

How to Make Healthy Pound Cake

I like to use parchment paper in this recipe, it ensures the pound cake doesn’t stick to the pan. But you can also grease the inside of the loaf pan with butter if you prefer.

When it’s time to remove the cake from the pan, all you need to do is lift up on the parchment paper. It’s great for clean up and for saving calories too.

How to Make Skinny Pound Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk butter and sugar together until creamy.
  4. Add in the egg and whisk together, then add the milk, vanilla, and apple sauce. Whisk well until combined.
  5. Add half the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix together, then add the remaining dry ingredients and mix together until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Gently tap the pan on the kitchen counter, then run a butter knife over the top to remove any air trapped in the batter.
  8. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Cool for 6 minutes, then remove the cake from the pan and cool on a cooling rack.
  10. Slice the pound cake into 12 slices and serve.
