This Low Calorie Apple Butter Recipe has 1/2 the sugar of an average recipe, and is just as fantastic at only 22 calories for 1/8 of a cup! Perfect for smearing on toast, adding to oatmeal, yogurt, or even a dollop to the top of pork chops. This healthy apple butter is packed with flavor.

- 6 pounds apples
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Equipment
Ingredients
- 6 pounds apples sweet apples such as Honeycrisp or Gala
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar lightly packed
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
Slow Cooker Directions:
- Peel, core and slice the apples, placing into the slow cooker as you work.
- To the slow cooker, add the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg cloves and salt, and mix well.
- Cook on low for about 10 hours or on high for 5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown.
- Uncover the slow cooker, mix in vanilla and continue cooking uncovered for about 2 hours.
- Using an immersion blender, blend the apple butter until smooth. (Or move the mixture to a blender, vent and blend until smooth)
- Will holding the fridge for 2 weeks, or in the freezer for 3 months.
Stovetop Directions:
- Peel, core and slice the apples, placing into a large pot as you work.
- To the pot, add the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg cloves and salt, and mix well.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 4-5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown.
- Mix in vanilla and continue cooking uncovered for 1 hour until the liquid has thickened.
- Using an immersion blender, blend the apple butter until smooth. (Or move the mixture to a blender, vent and blend until smooth)
- Will holding the fridge for 2 weeks, or in the freezer for 3 months.
Instant Pot Directions:
- Peel, core and slice the apples, placing into the instant pot as you work.
- To the pot, add the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg cloves and salt, 1/3 cup water, and mix well.
- Cover and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
- Allow to release pressure naturally for 20 minutes, the do a quick release.
- Using an immersion blender, blend the apple butter until smooth. (Or move the mixture to a blender, vent and blend until smooth)
- If it's still watery, press the sauté button and sauté on medium heat mixing every couple of minutes until it's thickened.
- Will holding the fridge for 2 weeks, or in the freezer for 3 months.
