Sure, I could have made this low calorie hot chocolate with water. But where is the fun in that?! I used creamy (and low calorie almond milk) and real chocolate.

Ingredient Swaps:

  • Almond Milk– Coconut, cashew, oat, and cows milk also work great in this recipe!
  • Cinnamon– swap it out for 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips– try sugar free or regular chocolate chips
  • All-Natural Zero Calorie Sugar – monk fruit sugar, coconut sugar, regular sugar and even maple syrup are great swaps

How to Make Healthy Hot Chocolate:

  1. Add the milk and cinnamon sticks to a small sauce pot.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat to the lowest setting and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the cinnamon sticks and add in the cocoa, chocolate chips, and sugar. Whisk well until the chocolate melts and the milk gets a bit frothy.
  4. Pour into a mug and serve hot.
