Ingredients for Low Calorie Burgers

Here are some tips to making the best homemade healthy burgers.

  1. Get good quality beef! I recommend getting either freshly ground beef from the butcher, or ideally organic ground beef.
  2. For the best cheeseburger recipes, get a sharp cheese. It will have more flavor than mild, and complement the cheeseburger recipe better.
  3. Know your burger temps, make sure you’re not over cooking your burgers.
  4. Add some yummy burger toppings to your cheese burger recipe.

Cooking Tips for Mushrooms: Making a burger with mushrooms is simple and easy, and mushrooms take on all of the flavors that are cooked around them, so if you were planning on making your burgers on stove, toss the mushrooms in the same time you’re cooking your burgers so they can cook together.

Notes on Lettuce: When it comes to burger lettuce, most people like to use iceberg. However iceberg lettuce has almost no nutritional value. I recommend trying Romain lettuce, it is my favorite burger lettuce because it tastes just like iceberg, however has a lot more nutrition to it.

Tips on Adding Cheese: My personal favorite is sharp cheddar. However depending on your other toppings, you may want to try Swiss, pepper jack, or even blue cheese.

How to Make Healthy Burgers

Grill Directions:

  1. Preheat your grill to 400 degrees, start this at least 10 minutes before you add the burgers for BBQ.
  2. Place the burgers patties directly onto the grill above the direct heat.
  3. Cook the hamburger patty on 1 side for at least 5 minutes, then turn the patty over and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Repeat this process for about 20 to 25 minutes or until desired doneness is reached.

Oven Directions:

  1. Make the hamburger patties, according to the directions above.
  2. Preheat your oven to 425°, and place a cooling rack onto a cookie sheet
  3. Once the oven is hot, bake your hamburgers in the oven for 15 minutes. Your burger temperature should be 155°F for medium, cook for an additional five minutes if you like your burgers well done.

Stove Top Directions:

  1. Pre-heat a skillet or cast iron skillet over high heat.
  2. Add the burgers patties to the hot skillet and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes for medium.
  4. Move to a plate to rest for 5 minutes, they will continue cooking while they rest.

Air Fryer Directions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°.
  2. Place your burgers patties into the air fryer, and cook for four minutes each side for medium.
  3. Continue assembling your burger recipes and enjoy.
