This Low Calorie Barbecue Baked Beans Recipe is healthy and easy. I made it with canned beans (not canned baked beans) to make this recipe extra easy and fast. You can enjoy this smoky BBQ beans baked camping recipe staple for just 149 calories per 1/2 cup serving, and the sugar is low thanks to my low calorie cooking tricks.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 2 slices bacon or turkey bacon
- 1 small onion
- 1 red bell pepper
- ⅓ cup Homemade Barbecue Sauce (or organic store bought)
- ⅛ cup zero calorie all-natural brown sugar (double for sweet baked beans)
- 2 teaspoons mustard
- 1 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 15-ounce can Great Northern beans (or navy beans)

Healthy Baked Beans Meal Prep and Storage
Meal Prep: You can make this ahead of time and set it aside for weeknight side dishes. Just cook and cool completely, then add to a glass container and add to the fridge.
Storage: Will hold in the fridge for 6 days, does not hold well in the freezer.
Reheating: You can reheat on the stovetop over low heat, or in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.

Low Calorie Baked Beans
Equipment
- Oven safe skillet or cast iron skillet
Ingredients
- 2 slices bacon or turkey bacon
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 red bell pepper chopped
- ⅓ cup Homemade Barbecue Sauce or organic store bought
- ⅛ cup zero calorie all-natural brown sugar (double for sweet baked beans)
- 2 teaspoons mustard
- 1 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 15-ounce can Great Northern beans or navy beans drained and rinsed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°.
- In a large cast iron skillet (or oven safe skillet or dutch oven), cook the bacon over medium-high heat.
- Cook until crisp, about 5-8 minutes then remove from the pan and crumble into a small bowl. Set aside.
- Add the onion and the bell pepper to the pan and cook, over medium heat, for 5 minutes until starting to soften.
- Turn off the heat and add the homemade barbecue sauce, zero calorie all-natural brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and beans.
- Stir well, cover with foil (or oven safe lid) and move to the oven.
- Bake the beans for 25 minutes, until until sticky and bubbling. Uncover and top with crumbled bacon.
- Serve hot, or chill to serve cold.
