Ingredients in Healthy Chicken Burgers

I like to top my chicken burgers with onions, tomatoes and spinach, but I have included a toppings list that even includes my low calorie burger sauce!

And you can choose to get store-bought bread if you prefer, I have given you a tip on how to cut the calories in those as well in the recipe card below.

Chicken Burger Seasoning:

  • Paprika
  • Salt (see nutrition section for low sodium tips)
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Ground cayenne pepper

Chicken Burger Patties:

  • Lean ground chicken
  • Steak Sauce
  • Thin sliced sharp cheddar cheese (I used Sargento Extra Thin) or your favorite cheese
  • Low Calorie Buns (or store-bought, or see nutrition section for low carb options)

How to Make Healthy Chicken Burgers

With so many ways to make low calorie chicken burgers, I know you will love this recipe!

You can cook these on the grill, stovetop, in the oven or air fryer!

How to Make Chicken Burgers:

How to Make Healthy Chicken Burgers:

  1. In a large glass bowl combine the ground chicken, burger seasoning and steak sauce. Mix together until just combined.
  2. Use your hands to divide the ground chicken into 4 portions, then form each portion into discs.
  3. Press unto the center of each patty with your thumb to imprint a deep dimple (this will help keep your burgers flat when you cook them.)
  4. Cook according to the directions below (BBQ, Oven, Stovetop, and Air Fryer directions below).
  5. To Assemble: Place the bottom halves of the Low Calorie Buns on plates (or one serving platter) top with spinach, a cooked chicken burger patty, onions, and your desired toppings, and then top each burger with the top of the bun.
  6. Serve hot.

Grill/Barbecue Directions:

  1. Preheat your grill to 400 degrees, start this at least 10 minutes before you add the burgers for BBQ.
  2. Place the chicken burgers patties directly onto the grill above the direct heat.
  3. Cook the chicken patties for 7 minutes, then turn the patty over, and cook for another 5 minutes
  4. Repeat this process for about 20 to 25 minutes or until they are fully cooked (internal temp 165 degrees). Top with cheese while still on the grill.
  5. Move to a plate to rest for 5 minutes.

Oven Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°, and place a cooling rack onto a cookie sheet
  2. Once the oven is hot, bake your chicken burgers in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Until the internal temp is 165 degrees.
  3. Move to a plate, and top with cheese. Rest for 5 minutes.

Stove Top Directions:

  1. Pre-heat a skillet or cast iron skillet over high heat.
  2. Add the chicken burgers patties to the hot skillet and cook for 7 minutes.
  3. Flip and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until cooked through (165 degrees).
  4. Move to a plate, and top with cheese. Rest for 5 minutes.

Air Fryer Directions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°.
  2. Place your chicken burgers patties into the air fryer, and cook for 6 minutes each side, until cooked through (165 degrees in the center).
  3. Move to a plate, and top with cheese. Rest for 5 minutes.
