How to Make Avocado Pesto Sauce
You can use a high speed blender or a food processor to make this avocado pasta sauce recipe. Though we find the food processor works the best.
And of course you can go old-school and use a Mortar and Pestle… If you decide to go that route, squish and press the basil, then the garlic, then the nuts, and finally the rest of the ingredients.
How to Make Basil Avocado Pesto Pasta Sauce:
- Add the basil leaves, avocados, hemp seeds (or pine nuts/walnuts), lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper to a food processor or high speed blender.
- Pulse adding water 1 tablespoon at a time until minced into a thick paste.
- Taste and season with more salt and pepper as needed. Then add to your favorite cooked pasta and toss well.

LOW CALORIE Basil Avocado Pesto Pasta Sauce
Equipment
- food processor or blender
Ingredients
- 2.5 oz bunch fresh basil stems removed
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1/4 cup walnuts or pine nuts
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast or parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Add the basil leaves, avocados, hemp seeds (or pine nuts/walnuts), lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper to a food processor or high speed blender.
