I like marinate these low calorie baked chicken legs for as long as possible. So I add them to the BBQ sauce and marinate them just as soon as I get home from weekly grocery shopping.

This way the recipe is marinated and ready to cook later in the week. You can even marinate them in the freezer for later this month!

Ingredients in Healthy Baked Chicken Drumsticks

I use a homemade BBQ sauce to make this recipe, but you can use store-bought if you prefer.

I do recommend getting an organic store-bought BBQ sauce if you do go that route. It will mean there are no unhealthy preservatives, colors/dyes and excess sugar in the sauce.

As I noted above, I like to marinate these for a long time. I add the chicken legs to a freezer bag with the BBQ sauce and marinate them all week (or month) in the fridge (or freezer for longer than 2 days).

But you can also skip the marinating time all together if you are in a rush. This recipe is really versatile and you can’t hurt it!
