This Low Calorie Salisbury Steak recipe is just 209 calories and packed with 27.1g of protein!I used 1/2 lean turkey and 1/2 lean beef to make this recipe extra low in calories. But you can use all beef or all turkey if you prefer. Special Tip: If you don't like mushrooms, just swap them out for a second onion. Just cook all the onions at once and only add 1/4 of the cooked onions to the bowl in step #3.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and spray with olive oil.
Cook the onions in the hot pan until slightly golden, about 10 minutes.
Move 1/2 of the onions to a large glass bowl. And add in the mushrooms and cook while you make the patties.
To the bowl of onions, add the beef, turkey, breadcrumbs, egg whites, 2 tablespoons of beef broth, salt and pepper.
Mix until just combined, and form into 5 patties.
Move the onions and mushrooms to the outer edges of the pan and lightly spray the pan again with olive oil.
Add the patties to the hot skillet and cook for 5 minutes each side.
Meanwhile in a separate bowl (I used a large glass measuring cup) combine the flour, remaining beef broth, tomato paste, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, and water. Whisk well.
Pour the broth mixture over the Salisbury steaks, onions and mushrooms and mix together a little so that the onions and mushrooms are dispersed.
Lower the heat to low, cover the skillet and cook for 20 minutes, stirring 1-2 times to avoid burning.
Serve salisbury steaks hot, topped with mushrooms and onions. Alongside your favorite sides (I recommend steamed peas and my Low Calorie Mashed Potatoes).
