welcome back to the lose weight by
0:03
eating podcast it has been a while
0:06
everyone I took a long Hiatus I was a
0:09
little bit burnt out but with that said
0:12
I am coming back to all of you with new
0:14
ideas New Perspective and some fun new
0:18
stories because the new year is upon us
0:21
I really wanted to talk about New Year's
0:25
resolutions how to set them well and a
0:29
new way to think about them and I've got
0:32
my notes here with me I'm actually going
0:33
to skip all the way to the bottom
0:35
because I'm really excited about this
0:36
new way to figure out the best New
0:39
Year's resolution for you so what you'll
0:42
want to do is take out a piece of paper
0:45
and I want you to Envision you've won
0:48
the lottery or gotten a huge inheritance
0:52
either way a huge amount of money has
0:54
been dumped in your lap you don't have
0:56
to work anymore you can if you want to
0:59
but you no longer have your schedule
1:04
created around your work now you can
1:08
create your own schedule so just
1:10
Envision that I know these are pipe
1:11
dreams go with it here so write down
1:15
what your schedule would look like not
1:18
when you're traveling but when you're at
1:20
home what would your schedule look like
1:23
if you had no work to worry about and
1:26
you could just do whatever you wanted to
1:28
do
1:30
would you go to the gym more would you
1:33
cook more at home would you read more or
1:37
what would you do so I actually wrote
1:39
out if I wion the lottery
1:41
tomorrow uh what my day-to-day would
1:45
look like when I'm at home and I would
1:47
start out with a slow morning enjoying
1:50
my coffee I would go to the gym for a
1:53
couple of hours I'd make a healthy
1:56
homemade lunch and I would read for fun
1:59
or for knowledge and if you're watching
2:01
on YouTube you can see I have quite a
2:03
lot of books here um I would make a
2:07
healthy family dinner I would unwind in
2:11
lovely fancy lounging
2:14
clothing I would do self-care every day
2:17
before bed and then I would sleep well
2:20
wake up and start all over again so take
2:24
a moment and write down if you could do
2:26
anything with your day-to-day what would
2:28
that be
2:30
then I want you to go back and take a
2:32
pen and I want you to Circle what you
2:34
can do right
2:35
now don't worry about your schedule we
2:38
can fit it in so the
2:41
gym right homemade
2:45
lunch you could do that now self-care
2:48
before bed you could do that now make a
2:52
healthy family dinner depending on your
2:54
schedule and if you like to meal prep
2:57
you can do that now I have just circled
2:59
four four really great New Year's
3:01
resolutions that you could do right now
3:04
yeah of course if I had unlimited time I
3:07
could go to the gym for a couple of
3:09
hours but that doesn't mean I can't fit
3:11
30 minutes in right
3:13
now right I would do self-care every
3:17
night but I could do that now why can't
3:20
I do that now right I could do a face
3:22
mask you can make your own homemade face
3:24
masks um I could meditate that's free
3:27
there's lots of things that you can do
3:29
when you think about what would my ideal
3:31
life look
3:33
like and then take a step back and
3:35
realize oh I can actually do that right
3:37
now that would make a really great New
3:40
Year's resolution so I actually did this
3:43
last year and I realized what is holding
3:46
me back from going to the gym every day
3:48
I joined a gym my membership is I
3:51
believe $35 per month and I can tell you
3:55
most places right now are offering a
3:57
free join like they don't charge you
4:00
uh uh joining
4:02
fee so that's what I did I named 2024 my
4:07
year of health and I wanted to just jump
4:11
into fitness all the way and since I
4:14
joined I have gone on average I would
4:18
say five times per
4:20
week so let's start out by making this
4:24
list figure out what is it that I would
4:27
do if I had unlimited time pick one and
4:31
that makes a really great New Year's
4:33
resolution so let's dial that in a
4:35
little bit more and talk about making
4:38
New Year's resolutions
4:41
reasonable saying I'm going to go to the
4:43
gym seven days a week is not reasonable
4:46
nope even for me somebody who goes to
4:49
the gym five days a week I still would
4:52
not set my New Year's resolution at go
4:55
to the gym 5 days a week because
4:57
something's going to happen right so
4:59
make it reasonable I know no matter what
5:02
I can get a workout in 4 days a week
5:05
that's reasonable I can make that
5:08
work you also want to make them
5:10
measurable so that one already is
5:13
measurable but say let's go back down to
5:16
our list homemade lunches say homemade
5:19
lunches are going to be your New Year's
5:22
resolution I am going to bring homemade
5:25
lunches to work x amount of days is five
5:30
work days
5:31
reasonable
5:33
no let's say four days four days out of
5:36
the week that makes it both reasonable
5:39
and measurable do you see so you want to
5:42
be able to measure your success and you
5:45
also want to be able to get to that goal
5:46
every single week you can always do more
5:49
you can always beat your New Year's
5:52
resolutions but I beg of you do not set
5:55
yourself up for
5:56
failure starting out with these huge
5:59
lofty goals take them down a notch you
6:02
can always 6 months in say well that was
6:05
a little bit too easy I'm going to add
6:07
an extra day of bringing lunches or I'm
6:10
going to add an extra gym day or
6:12
whatever it is that you want but start
6:15
really slow so that you can hit that
6:17
goal easily because when you can hit it
6:20
every single
6:22
week you're going to keep at
6:25
it now that we've talked about
6:27
reasonable and measurable I want to
6:30
remind all of
6:32
you
6:34
about the weight loss secret now if
6:37
you've been listening to this podcast
6:39
for a while you are already very well
6:41
aware of the weight loss secret I will
6:44
link to it in the show notes as well
6:47
it's another podcast I've done here uh
6:49
on the loseweight by eating podcast and
6:52
in that I talk about the weight loss
6:54
secret that nobody wants to talk about
6:57
but it's free it's easy and it works
7:02
across the board for Fitness eating
7:04
healthy all of that are you ready for
7:08
it here's the weight loss secret you're
7:10
going to screw up I don't every time I
7:13
say it I laugh but it's the truth it's a
7:16
human
7:17
condition even I am going to screw up
7:20
and eat something I'm not supposed to
7:22
eat miss a gym day these things will
7:25
happen so here's what you do with it you
7:28
just get over it
7:30
I'm human things happen I'm just going
7:34
to keep going the worst thing you can do
7:38
after you miss a workout or eat
7:41
something you're not supposed to do is
7:42
say well I'll start again on Monday that
7:45
is the it's the end it's the end because
7:49
how many times in your life have you
7:51
said I'm just going to start again on
7:53
Monday another really awful thing that
7:55
you could be doing to yourself in this
7:57
case is if you miss a gym work out doing
8:00
twice as hard tomorrow at the gym or
8:03
starving yourself on the next meal
8:05
because you overate at lunch and not
8:07
having dinner these will set you up for
8:10
failure the weight loss secret is it's
8:14
going to
8:15
happen it's just going to happen you are
8:17
not perfect nobody's perfect so you have
8:21
to allow for
8:23
mistakes and as a bonus if you can learn
8:26
from them that's really great so say for
8:30
instance you have a goal where you're
8:33
going to bring lunch with you 4 days a
8:36
week and Tuesday rolls around and it's
8:39
somebody's birthday at work and pizza
8:42
and Cake
8:43
arrives and you have some of both I
8:48
would now what are you gonna do are you
8:50
going to quit are you gonna say I'm
8:53
going to start again on Monday or you
8:54
just going to keep rolling through the
8:56
day you didn't eat your lunch that's
8:58
okay you can bring at home you can have
9:00
it for lunch tomorrow you could have it
9:01
for dinner tonight you could heck you
9:04
could just leave it at work and then
9:05
Lunch is ready for you tomorrow don't
9:07
give up this is what everybody does is
9:11
they they give up when they mess
9:13
up would you tell your
9:16
kindergardener oh honey that was a
9:18
really bad picture you shouldn't draw
9:21
anymore but this is what we do to
9:23
ourselves so again the weight loss
9:25
secret is you will screw up just get
9:28
over it do not punish yourself do not
9:31
deprive
9:32
yourself and do not give up if you can
9:36
Master this one
9:38
piece that's all you
9:41
need and then my last New Year's
9:45
resolution tip I want to give you is
9:48
don't set too many so often people will
9:53
set five or six New Year's resolutions
9:57
now if you want to set some goals for
9:59
the year that you want to work on that's
10:01
one thing you have the whole year you
10:04
know but if you want to start out
10:06
January 1st I'm gonna go to the gym
10:09
every day I'm gonna eat healthy every
10:11
day I'm gonna walk the dog every day I'm
10:14
gonna clean the house every day honestly
10:18
guys this is just it's not possible so
10:20
pick one maybe
10:23
two and then the extras that you want to
10:25
work on write them down and say okay
10:30
maybe March or April when I feel like
10:32
these resolutions are now healthy habits
10:35
I'm working on every single day now I
10:36
can pick up my list and I can start
10:39
working on another
10:40
one
10:42
so your New Year's
10:45
resolutions should be there to help you
10:47
to uplift you to make you excited about
10:50
the year they should not be daunting I
10:54
wanted to tell you a story I feel like
10:56
I've told this here on the podcast
10:57
before but years and years and years ago
11:00
when I first started lose weight by
11:01
eating I was watching the New York ball
11:05
drop and I don't know who it was
11:08
interviewing the gal in my mind I feel
11:10
like it was Anderson Cooper but somebody
11:12
asked her what are your New Year's
11:15
resolutions just this random woman and
11:17
she said I'm going to do yoga 365 days
11:21
and I remember yelling at the TV like oh
11:24
my God what are you doing there's no way
11:27
you can do that even if you are a yoga
11:29
instructor you're going to get sick
11:32
you're going to have an injury you're
11:34
just not going to feel it one day so
11:38
you've got to take a step back yeah you
11:42
can want to do yoga 365 days in a
11:46
year but it's not going to happen and so
11:50
if you start your new year's
11:53
resolution with something that's
11:56
unachievable you're setting yourself up
11:58
for failure
12:02
so let's go back through these five
12:05
tips and then I'll tell you what my New
12:08
Year's resolutions have been throughout
12:09
the years so tip one make them
12:12
reasonable something you can actually do
12:15
you can always always always beat your
12:18
goals blow them out of the water heck
12:21
yeah that would be amazing but you want
12:22
to win every single week to make them
12:25
measurable so just saying I'm going to
12:28
eat healthy all year
12:30
well that's great but how do you measure
12:32
that what is
12:35
healthy the next one is remember the
12:37
weight loss
12:39
secret and next don't set too many New
12:44
Year's resolutions and the fifth one was
12:46
the lotto ticket idea write out a list
12:49
of everything you would do on a
12:52
day-to-day basis what your just daily
12:54
schedule would look like CU your
12:55
schedule right now might look like get
12:57
up at 5:00 a.m. feed the kids
12:59
drive to work sit at work go home right
13:04
that's what your daily schedule looks
13:05
like right now if you won the lottery or
13:07
just $20 million was dropped into your
13:10
account
13:11
tomorrow what would you do with your day
13:14
pick out something on that list you
13:15
actually can do right now you don't have
13:18
to wait until all your dreams come true
13:20
to have the life that you want you can
13:22
start cherry-picking if few of those
13:23
things right now and get started so let
13:26
me tell you some of my New Year's
13:27
resolutions actually I'm going to start
13:29
with this year so this year I you know I
13:33
already work out and I eat healthy but I
13:37
am a picker and I don't mean a nose
13:39
picker but I'm like a finger picker like
13:42
I pick up my nails and I pick at my
13:45
cuticles and I do this when I'm
13:47
nervous and my partner and I have this
13:50
thing where anytime we catch each other
13:52
you know picking
13:56
or and so this year I ordered my myself
13:59
a a set from
14:02
manicurist which is an
14:04
allnatural vegan
14:06
organic gel nail system and if you're
14:10
watching you can
14:11
see and so that's what I'm doing this
14:14
year is I'm going to start taking better
14:17
care of my nails because it will stop me
14:20
from picking which I want to do right
14:22
now so let's go back from there last
14:26
year 2024 I made it my year of
14:30
Fitness I was going to get a gym
14:32
membership and I was going to start
14:34
working
14:36
out and I
14:38
had a hiccup in the beginning of the
14:41
year and I'm going to talk about that on
14:43
another podcast episode I had a a bit of
14:45
a cancer scare I'm fine but I wasn't
14:48
allowed to work out from January through
14:50
March last year so I started in March
14:54
and I started really hard which was not
14:57
smart and I should know better
14:59
I started going to the gym six days a
15:02
week and I started
15:04
running and quickly hurt my ankle doing
15:08
that and once I was well again I took a
15:11
step back took my own advice and said
15:13
all right let's let's do something
15:15
reasonable and so my goal was I'm just
15:18
going to get to the gym five days a week
15:21
I'm going to get to the gym I don't care
15:23
what I do if I get there and I go sit in
15:26
the sauna then I got there
15:30
half of the time on my way to the gym I
15:33
would be dreading it and I would just
15:35
tell myself you only have to do what you
15:37
want to do today so if you want to go in
15:40
and walk on the treadmill at a really
15:42
light pace for 20 minutes that's fine
15:44
you only have to do what you want to do
15:47
fast forward to now the end of the
15:49
year I am working out five to six days a
15:52
week lifting weights doing easy cardio
15:56
and feel better than I ever have
15:59
so that was my year of
16:02
Fitness a few of the other years of
16:04
course I cannot remember more than a
16:06
year ago but a few of the other years
16:08
was I was going to give up all white
16:11
flour and swap it out for wheat flour or
16:14
oat flour obviously that was difficult
16:18
but I had a goal that 75% of what I
16:22
purchased for the home or what I made in
16:24
the home was going to be whole wheat and
16:27
that was a really good one for me my
16:30
very first one was I'm going to give up
16:31
diet diet sodas and if you know my
16:33
weight loss story it was the start of
16:36
everything I gave up diet sodas I did
16:39
nothing else the first week and I lost
16:41
over 10 pounds in one week that was all
16:44
I did so little things like that you can
16:47
do something small if you drink diet
16:49
sodas right now and you want to stop
16:51
that could be your whole new year's
16:52
resolution of course you could do more
16:54
you don't have to plan today what you're
16:57
going to do all of next year that's
16:58
silly
16:59
pick something
17:02
easy but you know maybe something like I
17:05
know I need to do this I know I need to
17:07
start working out or I know I need to
17:08
give up the sodas or I know I need to
17:11
give up red meat or I I want to eat more
17:13
fish or whatever it is make it
17:16
reasonable make it measurable and just
17:19
get
17:21
started so before I leave you today I
17:25
want to share with you a little bit
17:28
about why I've been on for a while um so
17:31
I burnt out as we all do I dove into the
17:36
website so hard at loseweight by
17:38
eating.com and I shed so much fluff from
17:43
the website that it's unrecognizable so
17:45
if you have not looked at the lose
17:46
weight by eating website for a year you
17:48
really need to go check it out I took
17:50
out all of the fluff all you were
17:52
getting now when you go on the recipes
17:55
on the website
17:56
is how to make it ahead of time how to a
17:59
meal prep every single recipe yes and
18:01
had to store it and then the recipe and
18:04
then the nutrition that's it you're
18:06
getting no fluff I cut out over half of
18:10
the ads but this was thousands of
18:13
recipes so I had to go through every
18:15
single one and strip it and recreate it
18:20
the recipes are obviously the same but I
18:22
was so sick of seeing those recipe sites
18:24
where you have to read a whole book it
18:27
feels like before you get to the recipe
18:29
and sure many sites have got the jump to
18:31
recipe Button as does lose weight by
18:33
eating but I just thought this is not
18:37
helpful content this is not what people
18:39
want and so I stripped it as I did say I
18:43
added meal prep instructions to every
18:46
single recipe so now lose weight by
18:49
eating is the largest low calorie
18:54
website the largest weight loss recipe
18:57
website and the largest meal prep
18:59
website on the internet so I did all of
19:02
that while I was doing two podcasts my
19:06
other podcast is called who reality
19:08
cooking and yes that is coming back as
19:10
well
19:11
and I took a summer off and just burnt
19:15
myself out way too bad I took a break
19:18
and then I was about to start I was
19:21
going to come back to the podcasts
19:24
specifically The Who reality cooking
19:26
podcast and I was bringing on
19:29
a
19:30
co-host and my the co-host was my dear
19:34
wonderful friend Don who was on The
19:36
Taste with me and Don was also the very
19:40
first person I ever interviewed for the
19:42
who's reality cooking
19:44
podcast so I'm at the airport on my way
19:47
to Barcelona for my big trip I'm texting
19:50
with Don telling him you know this is
19:53
what I need and he's saying oh I I
19:55
haven't listened to all the podcast
19:56
episodes and we're you know doing notes
19:58
back and forth say okay I'm going to I
20:01
I'm going to get on the plane now we'll
20:02
chat when I come
20:04
back and when I came back I texted him
20:08
and I I didn't hear anything and I
20:11
thought all right
20:12
well I I didn't want to come off pushy
20:15
and I know he has his own life so I kind
20:16
of took a step back and a couple of
20:19
weeks went by and I hadn't heard from
20:22
him and I had a phone call with another
20:24
friend that knew Dawn he U my friend
20:27
Parker who is also on he worked on the
20:29
back end of the taste with
20:31
us and that's when I found out that Dawn
20:34
had passed and um it shook me and it
20:39
kind of took the wind out of my sails
20:43
and yeah so that's why I've been gone
20:47
and I know many of you are probably
20:49
thinking I don't even know who this
20:51
woman is I really don't care about her
20:53
story that's why I did at the
20:55
end but for those of you who've been
20:57

20:59
this podcast why is it not happening
21:00
where's
21:02
Audrey that's what's happened
21:05
so yeah it's an
21:07
excuse but I needed some time off and
21:11

21:13
