This Low Calorie Marinara Sauce can be made three ways (Stove Top, Slow Cooker, and Instant Pot). This recipe came over the boat from Italy with my family, and I have modified it to be made 3 different ways.You can have 1/2 cup of this Low Calorie Marinara Sauce for just 54 calories!
In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium-low heat. Add the onion and sauté 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, 1 cup water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and salt. Cook over low heat for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes to avoid burning.
INSTANT POT INSTRUCTIONS
Combine the oil and onion in an Instant Pot. Set the pot to sauté on medium heat and cook for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, then hit cancel.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and salt to the pot, cover, and cook on high pressure for 30 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally.
SLOW COOKER INSTRUCTIONS
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-low heat. Add the onion and sauté for 5 minutes, or until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
Transfer the onion and garlic to a slow cooker and add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, Italian Seasoning, sugar, and the salt. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 to 12 hours.
