Healthy Fish Taco Toppings

I am a bit of a purest when it comes to fish taco toppings.

I like avocado, mango salsa and my low calorie fish tacos sauces recipes. But there are many ways to dress up your fish tacos, and I wanted to give you a toppings guide.

The Best Fish Tacos Recipe {Grilled and Low Calorie}

The best fish tacos toppings are fresh and often crunchy to play off the softness of the fish and the tortilla. Here are my 10 favorite toppings.

The 10 Best Fist Taco Toppings:

  1. Avocado
  2. Shredded cabbage
  3. Mango salsa (see below!)
  4. Pico de Gallo
  5. Creamy taco sauce (see below!)
  6. Hot sauce
  7. Cilantro
  8. Red onions
  9. Pickled onions
  10. Cotija Cheese (though many believe you should never add cheese to fish)

Most people are apposed to adding cheese to fish tacos, and I happen to be one of them. There is a long standing rule to never combine fish and cheese. However, I have had Cotija cheese on fish tacos before, and it doesn’t ruin the dish.

So if you simply must add cheese to your tacos, try this salty Mexican cheese, it adds a boost of flavor the plays well off the other ingredients.
