Up next I’ll share my secret ingredient to make a low calorie whiskey old fashioned.

Low Calorie Old Fashioned Secret Ingredient

I was able to cut the calories by swapping out the sugar, or simple syrup. With an all natural, zero calorie simple syrup.

First off, I want you to know that I found this amazing, all natural ingredient all on my own. I am approached often to peddle ingredients… That’s not the case here.

I’m usually wary of “zero calorie sweeteners” and I want to stress, this should still be enjoyed in moderation. More sweets mean more craving for carbs… And often that’s where people gain weight.

Try this “secret ingredient” for my skinny old fashion recipe. You can click on the photo to add to your Amazon cart.

If you want to make this cocktail old fashioned recipe, you can use regular simple syrup! Just add 50 calories to the recipe card below…

How to Make an Old Fashioned

In this article I will show you how to make an old fashioned drink recipe.

I changed how make old fashioned once I started using simple syrup. I do love crushing the sugar cube… But it’s often just too labor intensive. Plus by using simple syrup, you can use an all natural zero calorie simple syrup!

How to Make an Old Fashioned Drink Recipe:

  1. Add the all natural zero calorie simple syrup, bitters and water into a rocks glass, and stir until combined.
  2. Fill the glass with large ice cubes, add the whiskey.
  3. Squeeze the orange peal over the glass to extract oil, roll the outer part of the orange peal around the rim of the glass, then drop in.

It’s relatively easy to make old fashioned cocktails… And with the elimination of crushing the sugar and dissolving, it’s even easier!

Final Thoughts

I’m always wary about writing low calorie recipe for drinks… Inevitably, someone will comment saying “you shouldn’t drink if you’re looking to lose weight!”

And you know what? They’re right! But the fact of the matter is, we have cravings, and we go off plan. And then where are we?

I find it better to feed your craving in a healthy way… Like in this old fashioned recipe. Will a cocktail HELP you lose weight? No… but will a low calorie version you can make at home stop you from going to the bar and ordering three… Plus some nachos? Yes!

In all things I recommend moderation. But here, in this little world of old fashioned ingredients, here is a healthier alternative… It’s 1/3 less calories, lower in carbs, and sugar.
